1. Redesigned starter selection screen

The first thing you will notice in the Cobblemon 1.8 features is a beautiful, more professional starter selection screen. It now explicitly includes options for Pikachu and Eevee as special starters, alongside the traditional regional trios and Hisuian forms.

2. Alpha Pokémon are here

Bringing a sense of danger to your world, Alpha Pokémon have finally been introduced. These giants are much larger than their normal counterparts, feature glowing red eyes, and are guaranteed to know two special TM moves. Unlike standard Pokémon that flee when hit, an Alpha will turn and attack the player, making them a legitimate threat in survival mode.

3. Massive expanded roster (Kingambit & Hydrapple)

A ton of new Pokémon have been added to the 1.8 update. Highlights include the full Applin line (featuring Hydrapple and Dipplin), the Pawniard line (introducing the massive Kingambit), and fan favorites like Snom and Frosmoth. Other additions include Rockruff, Pancham, Seviper, Zangoose, and Alolan versions of Sandshrew and Sandslash.

4. Size variations and dynamic growth

Cobblemon 1.8 introduces a size variation system where Pokémon now range from Extra Small to Extra Large. Furthermore, Pokémon at level one now start at their smallest form and physically grow in size until they reach level 10. This means an Extra Large level 10 Blastoise can end up looking as large as a building.

5. 49 new habitat structures

The world is much more diverse thanks to 49 new naturally generating habitat structures. One of the most useful is the Berry Patch, which generates dozens of different berry species in one location. These habitats are expected to affect local spawns and provide a much faster way to collect resources for breeding and mutations.

6. The "Move Dex" Pokédex tab

The Pokédex has received a significant upgrade called the Move Dex. By selecting a Pokémon in your Dex, you can now view a comprehensive list of every move that species can learn via leveling up, egg moves, or TMs. New moves are "discovered" and added to your permanent library simply by catching a Pokémon that already knows them.

7. The TM Machine

To manage the new move system, you can now craft a TM Machine using two iron ingots, two copper ingots, redstone dust, and tinted glass. This station allows you to search for and craft specific TMs that you have discovered. It also displays which Pokémon in your current party are compatible with the selected move.

8. Craftable and permanent TMs

The Cobblemon 1.8 snapshot introduces a unique take on TMs. While they are single-use by default, learning a move via TM makes it a permanent part of that Pokémon's move pool, allowing you to swap back to it later without needing another item. For those who prefer the modern games, a config setting allows you to toggle TMs to be infinite-use.

9. Type Gem blocks and clusters

Type Gems have gone from niche items to essential resources for crafting TMs. You will now find Type Gem Blocks and Clusters—similar to amethyst—spawning naturally throughout the world. There is a specific gem block for every single type, creating a new incentive for underground exploration and mining.

10. Shipwreck coves and ruin structures

New Ruin structures and Shipwreck Coves have been added, serving as the only source for TMs that cannot be learned by leveling up. Shipwreck Coves come in several varieties (Magma, Lush, and Submerged) and contain Gilded Chests. These chests hold "Elemental Hyper Beam" moves like Blast Burn, Frenzy Plant, and Hydro Cannon.
